About Us

Mission
With the economy teetering on the brink of financial ruin and the national terrorist alert set at a disturbingly permanent shade of swine flu, we sometimes forget to laugh at ourselves and to appreciate the inherent levity that life gives us. Lit Up! celebrates the power of laughter to help us cope with the uncertainty and doom that dominate the scrawl beneath the twenty-four hour news anchors. This humor reading series presents Bay Area writers reading aloud essays that highlight the hilarity and absurdity of their lives so that you can take solace that whatever their story may be, it didn’t happen to you.

Brittny Bottorff
A recovering attorney, Brittny lives and laughs in San Francisco. She avoids revising the draft of her first novel by playing Legos with her son and organizing completely unprofitable enterprises like a series of humor readings in the Bay Area.

Kelly J. Kelly
When she’s not wrangling the books at the Hair of the Gods, Kelly is purveyor of Airline & Stewardess Memorabilia and Aviation Collectibles procured from around the world at Jet Girl Gallery. In her free time, she is passionate about procrastination.

Jennifer Lou
Jen chucked cubicle life and now stays in her pjs until the p.m. She has authored several thousand instant messages and emails. When she’s not reading or writing, she plays with otters and explores the world by traveling and snacking. Update: Jen and cubicle life have reconciled and are now working towards a part-time solution. Update 2: The two are in the process of parting ways. She has instead moved onto location independent work (translation: you work and can do so from anywhere you please).
